The project is to be carried out in the Loschmidt Laboratories, which are part of the Research Centre for Toxic Compounds in the Environment (RECETOX), in the Faculty of Science at the Masaryk University (MU, Brno, CZ). MU is the second largest university in the Czech Republic, a member of the Compostela Group and the Utrecht Network. Research projects in Loschmidt Laboratories are dedicated to fundamental principles of enzymatic catalysis, and bioengineering of new enzymes for environmental and biomedical applications. The long-term screening for novel enzymes and their properties has resulted in: (i) >50 protein structures solved by X-ray crystallography, (ii) >200 scientific publications, (iii) 6 patents and (vi) 10 software tools for protein engineering available at https://loschmidt.chemi.muni.cz/peg/software/.
